Day 1
Arrive in Moshi
Land at Kilimanjaro Airport and transfer to your hotel for dinner -if applicable- and overnight.
Moshi: It is the capital of Kilimanjaro region in the north eastern Tanzania, situated on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Mount Kilimanjaro: With its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, is a dormant volcano and the highest mountain in Africa, with its summit about 4,900 metres from its base, and 5,895 metres above sea level. The first people known to have reached the summit of the mountain were Hans Meyer and Ludwig Purtscheller, in 1889.
Kilimanjaro Halisi Retreat

Day 2
Day at leisure in Moshi
Breakfast and enjoy a guided Coffee tour in Machare Farm. After lunch, nature walk in the area surrounding the farm and late afternoon briefing with your guide to prepare you for the climb ahead.
Dinner and overnight.

Day 3
Rongai Gate to Simba Camp

Elevation: 1,800m/5,900ft to 2,600m/8,400ft
After breakfast, you will begin a scenic two hour drive North near the Kenya border to the Rongai Gate which is located at the village of Nale Moru.
Wait for your permits to be issued while watching the hustle and bustle of operations as many crews prepare for the journey ahead. Enjoy the beautiful rainforest scenery and windy trails while your guide tells you about the local flora and fauna and natural wildlife such as the Black and White Colobus Monkey. At these lower elevations the trail can be muddy and quite slippery. We highly recommend gaiters and trekking poles here.
Enjoy excellent views out across the Kenyan plains, before reaching camp.
Simba Camp
Your crew will set up your tent for the night and you will sleep in comfortable camp beds. A mountain shower and portable mountain toilet will make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Day 4
Simba Camp to Kikelewa Camp

Elevation: 2,600m/8,400ft to 3,600m/11,800ft
Begin your trek through the moorland zone steadily gaining height and giving superb views of Kibo and the Eastern ice fields on the crater rim.
After crossing the moorland zone, head towards the jagged Mawenzi Peak.
Temperatures begin to drop as you descend into the valley for Kikelewa Caves.
Kikelewa Camp
Your crew will set up your tent for the night and you will sleep in comfortable camp beds. A mountain shower and portable mountain toilet will make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Day 5
Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn

Elevation: 3,600m/11,800ft to 4,320m/14,200ft
Today is a relatively short but steep day of trekking through grassy slopes as you proceed to some of the most iconic views of the majestic mountain.
The tarn and camp are set at the foot of the cirque of Mawenzi Peak directly beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi making this one of the most spectacular sites to set camp for dinner and overnight.
Mawenzi Tarn Camp
Your crew will set up your tent for the night and you will sleep in comfortable camp beds. A mountain shower and portable mountain toilet will make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Day 6
Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Camp

Elevation: 4,320m/14,200ft to 4,750m/15,400ft
Watch the spectacular sunrise from Mawenzi Tarn as the light cascades through the jagged spires of Mawenzi Peak.
Depart Mawenzi Tarn Camp and cross the lunar-like landscape of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks.
Relax on arrival to prepare for the final ascent, which begins shortly after midnight.
Kibo Camp
Your crew will set up your tent for the night and you will sleep in comfortable camp beds. A mountain shower and portable mountain toilet will make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Day 7
Kibo Camp to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Camp

Elevation: 4,750m/15,400ft to 5,895m/19,340ft
Down to 3,690m/12,200ft
An early start at midnight to follow the moonlit path as you zigzag up the loose volcanic scree slope. This is the steepest and most demanding section for the climb, taking at least five hours to Gillman’s Point which offers great views of the Eastern Ice fields. See the sunrise behind Mawenzi Peak illuminating the plain. Another hour around the crater and up to the highest point Uhuru Peak the roof of Africa where you will be rewarded with stunning views of the spectacular glaciers illuminated by the sunrise. You will then descend to Horombo Camp with a rest at Kibo Hut on route.
Horombo Camp
Your crew will set up your tent for the night and you will sleep in comfortable camp beds. A mountain shower and portable mountain toilet will make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Day 8
Horombo Camp to Marangu Gate to Moshi

Elevation: 3,690m/12,200ft to 1,830m/6,000ft
After breakfast and a heartfelt ceremony of appreciation and team bonding with your crew, it’s time to say goodbye. Continue the descent down stopping at the Mandara Huts for lunch and back to Marangu Gate. There you will collect your certificates and a waiting vehicle will take you back to Moshi for a long anticipated and well deserved hot shower, dinner and soft bed.
